Raetta B. Fountain, M.D.

Raetta B. Fountain, M.D. received her Medical Degree from the University of Alabama, Birmingham. She completed her Internship Residency and Fellowship in Gastroenterology at East Carolina University School of Medicine. Having been in academic and private practice for more than 20 years, Dr. Fountain has developed a special interest in inflammatory bowel disease. Dr. Fountain is Board Certified by the American Board of Internal Medicine in Gastroenterology.

Thomas M. Sturgis, MD, F.A.C.P., A.G.A.F.

Thomas M. Sturgis, MD, F.A.C.P., A.G.A.F. completed his Bachelor of Science from Villanova University in Pennsylvania. He received his MD Degree from Rutgers Medical School in New Jersey in 1986. He completed his residency in internal Medicine and was Chief Resident at Overlook Hospital in New Jersey. After completing his fellowship in Gastroenterology at Ohio State University in Columbus, Ohio, he spent four years in academic medicine and was Chief of Gastroenterology at ECU School of Medicine before entering private practice in 1996. He is Board Certified in both Internal Medicine and Gastroenterology. Dr. Sturgis has had the honor of being elected as a fellow to the American College of Physicians and the American Gastroenterological Association.

MaryKate Kratzer, MD

MaryKate Kratzer, MD grew up in Northeast Ohio, where she completed her undergraduate studies at Ashland University while competing on the cross country and track & field teams. She received her medical degree from American University of the Caribbean School of Medicine in St. Maarten. Dr Kratzer completed her residency in Internal medicine and Fellowship in Gastroenterology at ECU Health where she was chief fellow. She is board certified in Internal Medicine and board eligible for Gastroenterology in 2025. She is excited to continue serving Eastern North Carolina with her strong passion for colon cancer screening and prevention as well as women’s GI health.

Kelly Brillant MPH, PA-C

Kelly Brillant MPH, PA-C completed her Bachelor of Nursing Degree at The University of Vermont in Burlington, Vermont in 1990. She worked as a critical care nurse at Parkland Memorial Hospital in Dallas, Texas until 1995 and subsequently got her Master’s of Public Health and Physician Assistant Studies Degree from Nova Southeastern University in Davie, Florida in 1997. Upon graduating she worked in c ritical care, trauma, and general surgery at Jackson Memorial Hospital in Miami, Florida. In 2003 she moved with her family to Greenville and became an Assistant Professor at ECU’s Physician Assistant Program where she continues to provide guest lectures. Since 2008 she has worked as a Physician Assistant in Gastroenterology in Washington, North Carolina. She is pleased to join Atlantic Gastroenterology and continue caring for patients with gastrointestinal disorders.
